Up Arrow Symbol (↑)

Up Arrow Symbol uses ↑, Unicode U+2191 UPWARDS ARROW. In an interface it may move an item to a higher position, return the reader to the top of a page, or mark ascending sort order. A label such as “Sort price ↑” is stronger than a detached arrow because the reader can identify both the field and the direction.

Charts and diagrams use ↑ for the positive vertical direction or for an increase, but the baseline and metric still need to be named. Physics may define |↑⟩ as a spin-up state. In some chemistry notation, an upward arrow can indicate gas evolution. Each convention requires a legend or nearby expression; the arrow is not self-defining.

The character is also visually close to Shift-key symbols, upload icons, and heavier emoji arrows. Those graphics may have different semantics and different code points. An upload button should say Upload, while a keyboard guide should use the symbol specified for the Shift key rather than assuming U+2191.

Copy ↑ and confirm U+2191. HTML may use ↑, ↑, or ↑. Align the arrow with the item or axis it describes, keep ascending and descending indicators as a matched pair, and attach readable text to interactive uses.

Quality assurance for ↑ should test the vertical relationship, not just the glyph. Confirm that ascending data really appears in the promised order, that a move-up control changes position rather than uploading a file, and that scientific state notation has a legend. These checks are specific to upward motion or state and should not be borrowed from a downward-sort control.
